Sign Permits

Why do I need a sign permit?

We hear this question often. Almost all, if not all of the Cities in the Twin City Metropolitain Area have controls over the signs that can be display in their area. Just imagine for a moment what we would be exposed to without some sort of sign regulation. Controls are needed to protect us from those individuals standards that are often times unacceptable to the majority of us.

Where do permits come from?

The City of St. Paul and the City of Minneapolis govern both the size and the content of your sign. Both Cities limit the square footage of signage based on street frontage and lot size. Woodybury, Eagan, West St. Paul, South St. Paul, Inver Grove Height, etc. all have simular regulations but with their unique little twists. No City will let you install a sign without some sort of review.

Licensed Contractor.

Almost all the Cities require that we be a licensed contractor in that City before we can "pull" a permit. To be licensed you must be insured and often times bonded. All of these cost must be built into the fees a licensed sign hanger must charge just to install your signs. These are government regulations we must follow if we want to be allowed to install signs.

Where are we licensed?

We are currently licensed in St. Paul, Minneapolis and several of the suburbs.

If you purchase a sign from a sign company that says you don't need a permit, BE WARE. Someone will be paying a fine and it most likely will be you.
